While Dad was in the Philippines, Mom continued to work at Bendix. They wrote letters every day. Mom made her wedding dress and made preparations for the wedding, writing to the San Gabriel Mission in Santa Barbara. In July she quit her job at Bendix, bought a car, and drove to Port Hueneme, California to meet Dad. "I drove out to California and met his ship -- taking his sister Margaret and my brother Frank -- who fought like cats and dogs on the trip. They stood up for us at the wedding at San Gabriel Mission in Santa Barbara and then we took them directly to the airport where we had a small wedding cake that they had gotten somewhere and a breakfast and sent them on their flights. We then drove up into the San Bernadino mountains to a place called Lake Arrowhead where we had made reservations, I think. Maybe we just found a place, I don't remember."
