Michael Linehan died in 1973 after a long battle with recurrent brain tumors. Mom recalls, "When Raph was about three he went up to Grandfather and wanted to ask him a question of him, but Grandfather didn't pay any attention to him. So Raph kicked him in the shin. Grandfather paid attention then, and from then on he paid special attention to Raph. He thought it was great that he demanded to be heard." Mom recalls that "he was very set in his ways and Estelle catered to him. He was a a very holy, quiet, private man -- nobody ever knew him very well. After his brain surgery he was much better. He was a moody, though kind man who was never anything but kind to me."
