Frost Family Jargon
Response to Frank's Idea

Frank recommended a generation naming convention using numbers for previous generations, and letters for subsequent generations. He also recommended that adding the same-gender parent reference to the generation convention in order to help make a unique identification.

I like this idea. I thought the same gender-parent idea was great. It provides equal treatment to the genders, and being particularly proud of my Viking ancenstry, I love the Viking tie in. However ...
I found the same-gender parent thing did not work out as well as I hoped. For example, when posting Frank's news bit on John Hoke, I found this didn't work for me. First, I don't know John's father's name (OK, I know I should, but I just couldn't remember - sorry!). Second, this doesn't help tie him in to the Frost/Schulte family unless you know that Helen Frost Hoke Hollen was the Frost part of the Hoke family. (I hope the Hoke's are proud of their family, and all that, but this is about the Frost family/name/history/...). I guess I'd prefer to use the parent that most directly ties into the Frost/Schulte family.
Although out numbered, 5 of the Original 12 are female. I'm not sure how the actual references would work out, but Catherine's (A, Carrie) family alone should help bias the refenences to the women! (For those of you who don't know, this is NOT a shot - my "Aunt Kate" and family were one of the Frost families that I got to know and love when I was young. I always liked the fact that she had a large family like my grandparents.)
At any rate, the idea is to make it as simple as possible to identify someone.
