The following information was provided by Ken Schulte.

Oberluttgenau, Karl's place of birth, appears to be a suburb of Wippenfurth - a village now under lake Neyatalsphere.

Karl immigrated May 22, 1880 - destination Dodge, Nebraska. Karl and Louise belonged to the Saint Nicholas Church and lived in Grohs Blumbeig (flower hill) in Wippenfurth. He came to America with his wife, six children, and his batchelor brother William Schulte.

Their passport written in Koln, West Prussia, dated March 22nd 1880, has been translated: Underwrote that the King's regime approved that through this document Karl Joseph Schulte, 47 years old, born in Oberluttgenau near Wippefurth Grohs Blumbeig in the area of Wippenfurth. Of his application of immigration with wife Louise (born Walder) and their children (see above). This document for release is given to those before mentioned persons and with the same lose their citizenship in Prussia. This document is valid of six months, if not used they would automatically retain their citizenship, #18 this authority is granted under Regulation of June 1870 by page 355. (John Schulte has the original passport in Casper, Wyoming.)

They settled north of the Olean area and engaged in farming. They built a $2,500 home from the $13,000 in cash they had brought from Germany to start their lives. The new home and the amount of money were very impressive for those times.
