Heidi Kathryn Frost

Heidi Kathryn Frost was born on July 30, 1982, in Smithtown, New York (St. John's Hospital, in Smithtown). Heidi lived in Freehold, New Jersey briefly during 1983, and then the family moved to North Carolina. Heidi lived in Seven Lakes, NC, from approximately September 1983, until October 1984, when the family moved to the new home they had built in Cary, NC.

Heidi was a happy, and somewhat precocious, baby (actually, she had a bad case of colic until she was about 6 months old, but even then she was otherwise happy). Her father called her "The Little Professor" because before she knew any words she liked to stand up and babble and make various hand and arm gestures. (This couldn't have been something she picked up from her father? ;-) When Heidi did start to learn English she quickly started using very complex words, sentance structures, and even analogies. Adults were often taken aback when Heidi would address them confidently with adult level words and structures (no, not that kind of adult language - she never heard that from her parents).

From the time Heidi first learned to stand, until about age 5 (when she went to school and wore shoes all day) Heidi was always on her toes. She stood on her toes and walked on her toes. I'm not talking about standing on the balls of her feet - I'm talking about something closer to the ballet "pointe" position. As a result Heidi developed very strong legs, especially her calves. In fact, during her first dance lessons (about age 3?), her teacher got mad because she thought her parents were encouraging her to go to pointe, when that was actually just the way that Heidi stood.

When Heather was born, Heidi held her in the hospital within her first 24 hours. Heidi was a very good older sister, and often held her in her lap and arms and "read" to her. Heidi and Heather were best friends until about the time that Heidi approached her teen years. That's when the typical rivalries kicked in, and we're hoping they'll out grow it as the years pass!

At age 3 Heidi was able to spell many one syllable words, especially the "at" words (bat, cat, etc.) and the "ar" words (bar, car, etc.). During a car trip from NC to NY her father noticed that she could instantly spell any of these words on her little grey vinyl "magic erase" tablet, but she couldn't read anything. Her parents took her to the eye doctor. The doctor said that Heidi was extremely far-sighted. Her condition was apparently unusual for someone of her age. The doctor said that Heidi had learned to compensate for her eye sight with her other senses. In addition, the doctor said that Heidi would probably never see correctly because her poor vision during her formative years had not properly stimulated the various systems that make up the sense of sight. Although Heidi was given glasses immediately, at first her sight, even with her glasses, was very poor. To make a long story at least somewhat shorter, her parents spent an incredible amount of time at doctors, and doing visual exercises with Heidi. Within 2 to 2 1/2 years Heidi's eyes were corrected to approximately 20/20 to 20/40 with her glasses. By about age 15 Heidi's eyes were approximately 20/40 without correction.

Heidi started in public school. However, several debacles in the public school system, including an asbestos removal problem, prompted her parents to pull her out of school for two weeks while they enrolled her in St. Timothy's (Episcopal). The next year Heidi enrolled in a Catholic elementary (Lords), and has been in Catholic schools since (Cathedral). Heidi has been accepted to Cardinal Gibbons High School.

Heidi has always been very athletic and artistic. In pre-school, and early elementary she took ballet, tap, and jazz dancing. In mid elementary, however, she rode a horse, and the rest is history. Heidi's first horse is Skipper - a small horse, large pony appaloosa. Heidi has also shown strong interest and skills in graphics arts (mostly drawing to date) and music (mostly piano). Heidi made the cheerleading team in seventh grade, and was one of two captains in eighth grade. August 22, 1996

Heidi is currently a junior at Cardinal Gibbons. She was a cheerleader as a freshman, but she didn't get along with the coach. Besides being an excellent student, she has taken up dancing again through clubs and classes at Gibbons. Heidi made National Honor Society last year (1997-1998). The combination of strong academics and Catholic values has been an excellent match for Heidi, and she has been very comfortable at Gibbons. Heidi has enjoyed and excelled at Math and Science. Latin/Greek has been a strong part of her education - she really enjoys it, and has done very well.

Skipper continues to be a big part of Heidi's life. Science fiction is the preferred reading material, as well as the preferred TV and movie genre. December 18, 1998

Heidi is the older of two daughters. Her sister Heather was born December 19, 1984, in Cary, North Carolina (hospital was Wake Medical, Raleigh, NC).

Heidi's parents are David Paul Frost and Kelly Kathleen Fellingham Frost.
