David Paul Frost

See pictures of Dave and his family.

David Paul Frost was born on July 12, 1954, in West Bablyon, New York (South Side Hospital, Bay Shore, NY). When David was about 18 months old, the family moved to West Islip (Go Lions!), where he grew up about as much as boys ever grow up.

During high school and junior high Dave was active in athletics. In junior high he was on the swimming team (usually won the county) and played intramural basketball. He was also on the soccer team in 7th grade, but that just wasn't what he wanted to do. In high school Dave played on the football team, and continued to play lots of hoops.

After high school Dave went to Cornell University, in the Engineering School. While always staying in Engineering, he changed disciplines numerous times. He later went to SUNY Stony Brook to finish his undergradute work, and earned a BEME in mechanical engineering.

Between Cornell and Stony Brook Dave married Kelly Kathleen Fellingham, October 15, 1997, in Infant Jesus Church, Port Jefferson, NY.

As graduation approached, Dave interviewed Bell Labs. They made an offer he couldn't refuse - they paid him to go for his Master's degree at Purdue. Dave earned an MSME from Purdue.

Dave did well at Bell Labs, launching many new products. During most of time they lived in Smithtown, NY (after a brief apartment stint in Riverhead). Heidi Kathryn Frost was born while they lived in Smithtown, at St. John's hospital in Smithtown. The 100 miles each way commute to Bell Labs was wearing on Dave, so they moved to New Jersey in 1983. They lived in Freehold, NJ. However, Kelly and Dave just weren't made for living in New Jersey, so Dave took a job with Becton Dickinson (BD) in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina in 1984.

Dave worked at BD for about 12 years. These were good years personally and professionally. Heather Kelly Frost was born shortly after they moved into their house at 105 Hawk's Nest Court, in Cary, NC, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, NC. The girls had their "little girl" years in this house. The family moved to 100 Victoria Station Court, Cary, NC, in 1988 - a much bigger house.

In 1992 and 1993 Kelly had miscarriages. These were very hard on everyone. This also marked, either directly or co-incidentally, the beginning of bad times.

In 1994 Dave got caught in the cross-fire in a political war at work. The war was between his boss and top management. The following year his position was "eliminated".

Late in 1996 Dave took a position with Owens Corning in Toledo. The original intent was to move the family to Toledo (or at least, it was Dave's intent). Shortly after taking the position Dave realized that this was not a good long term career move, so no effort was made to move the family to Toledo.

While continuing to look for work elsewhere, Kelly told Dave she wanted a divorce in the Spring of 1997. In order to not be judgemental here, all that can be said is that she said she was happier alone - the divorce was not for "grounds" (adultery, abuse, etc.).

This made the job search somewhat more difficult, since it made it necessary to limit the search to the Raleigh-Durham area of North Carolina. At the beginning of 1998 Owens Corning was making massive layoffs, so Dave managed to ensure that he obtained a good severence package, and moved back home to NC without a job. Shortly there after he took a position with Vanstar which required significant travel, but allowed him to live where ever he wanted.

Dave and Kelly were formally divorced in the Spring of 1998.

Late in 1999 and early 2000 David began to have doubts about his job. Vanstar had been sold to Inacom, and that never really went well. Mike Hutchinson, who had represented Vanstar when David was at Owens Corning, had gone to work for Unisys. Mike had made several overtures for David to work for Unisys, and in the early Spring of 2000, David went to work for Unisys. Two weeks after David left Vanstar/Inacom, the company abruptly went out of business - David likes to say they just couldn't make it without him, although the evidence is that the problems were much bigger than that ;-)

On January 19, 2001 Mary Harmsworth da Silva Morgan sent David an e-mail with the subject "Mr. Dwyers class". David had first met Mary in Mr. Dwyer's physics class in high school. Although Mary didn't know it, David had a big crush on her at that time. Anyway, the subject line immediately sparked fond memories for David, so he quickly read the e-mail.

Mary and David exchanged e-mails for a while and then phone calls. In early summer David drove from Apex, NC to Jacksonville, FL to visit Mary. They had a good time, and talked late into the night on many occasions when they would get together over the summer. Mary was planning a vacation to the Shenandoah Valley area of Virginia, and David asked if he could join her (separate rooms, etc.). Mary agreed, they had a great time, and fell in love.

David asked Mary to marry him on November 30, 2001 - on a "blue moon" (second full moon of the month). Mary said "yes". David and Mary were married at Mandarin Christian Church, in the Mandarin section of Jacksonville, FL, on March 30, 2002.

David's job allowed him to live anywhere (near an airport!), and Mary's job and education required her to be in Jacksonville, so they bought a house in Jacksonville. As of this writing they still live there.

That's all for now folks ...

Dave's parents are Victor Paul Frost and Margaret Jean McGrath Frost.

Dave is the middle of three sons: older brother Richard Dean (5-24-52), and a younger brother Michael John (11-27-57).
